Free Facebook app – Talk Gym

BT has launched a free Facebook app called Talk Gym to help young people develop their communication skills.
The idea is to make sure young people aged 14-19 can express themselves more efficiently in preparation for life after school. Employment is one of the areas where good communication is essential.
The Talk Gym app gets users to check their ‘talk fitness’ by asking six questions about themselves and then asking the same questions of a friend or relative.
The answers appear anonymously in a graph and the app uses the responses to assess the person’s communication ability. The feedback gives tips on being clear, listening, talking in groups and being interviewed. Find out more: www.bt.com/talkgym

The Schools White Paper, The Importance of Teaching, sets out a radical reform programme for the schools system, with schools freed from the constraints of central Government direction and teachers placed firmly at the heart of school improvement.

Drawing heavily on evidence from the world’s best education systems, it outlines how we will raise the prestige of the teaching profession, and how we will transform the quality of initial training and continuing professional development. And it commits Government to cutting away unnecessary duties, processes, guidance and requirements.
